Mission Commission: What’s the Latest?

Thanks to all who have participated in the process of developing a new mission statement. Following is an overview of what we’ve done so far and what’s in store:

  • Council set a goal to create a new mission statement.
  • An ad hoc committee was formed.
  • Background information was gathered from the UUA and other sources.
  • A strategy and timeline were developed to gather input and keep the congregation engaged and informed throughout the process.
  • We held a Coffee, Conversation & More session devoted to discussion about mission.
  • An online survey was conducted, and results were shared with the congregation.
  • A mission-focused workshop was led by the Reverend Christine Robinson. Some results of the conversations were included on page 5 of the March newsletter.
  • Several winter potlucks focused conversations on mission.

Wheel shows people’s “votes” on important words from our existing mission statement.

What’s next?

  • With all the collected input we will craft a concise and compelling mission statement.
  • We will identify key values that support our mission, which will be included with the mission statement.
  • A draft statement will be presented to Council this spring.
  • The draft will be reviewed and refined, based on Council and congregational input, over the summer months.
  • The congregation will adopt the new mission statement at the annual meeting in October.

If you have questions or thoughts about the mission statement process, feel free to contact one of the members of the Mission Commission: Kathy Wyckoff, Todd Moe, Danny Thomas, Judi Cohen, Carol Pynchon or Cliff Westerling.
