In Religious Education 2.9.2020

This Sunday our children and youth will hear a story about a cardinal who likes to count snowflakes, explore our fourth principle with an eye to gender stereotypes, engage with community gardening and food security, explore the concept of abstinence and bake cookies.

Our RE Ambassador is Arthur Freeheart.

Nursery will be opened and staffed by Eden Terrell and Barb Beekman.

Spirit Play will hear the story “Weight of a Snowflake.”  A red promise story about a chickadee who likes to count snowflakes.

Teachers: Sarah Bentley-Garfinkel and Jeff Rousell

Love Will Guide Us will focus on the fourth Unitarian Universalist Source, expressed in children’s language as “Jewish and Christian teachings which tell us to love all others as we love ourselves.” The story from Hebrew scripture of Jacob and Rachel meeting for the first time highlights and questions gender stereotypes.

Teachers: Heather Rousell and Becky VandeWater

Maker Space will begin a new workshop rotation about community gardening and food security.

Teachers: David Bradford and Miles Manchester

Jr High OWL will explore the concept of abstinence, which is redefined as refraining from sexual intercourse, as well as skin-to-skin genital contact. This definition of abstinence excludes higher risk sexual behaviors but allows for the possibility of healthy and safe non-intercourse sexual behaviors, such as masturbation and outercourse.

Facilitators: Todd Moe and Jan DeWaters

Youth Group will bake cookies and gather all the supplies needed for the sledding party.

Advisors: Carol Zimmerman and TBA
