Intellectual Freedom and the Unitarian Universalist
Mary Michalek
The fourth Unitarian Universalist principle is “a free and responsible search for truth and
meaning.” One of the key ways we learn of others’ truths, and can thus develop
empathy and compassion, is through stories. Limiting access to information in the form
of book bans is in direct conflict with what we believe. Join Mary Michalek and others as
we consider the deep danger of the “single story” and what we can do to defy it.
