Celebrate the United Nations International Day of Peace with family-friendly music-making, drumming, dance, and art led by Dr. Caron Collins, Professor Emerita from The Crane School of Music. Enjoy fun, collaborative, and creative peace-building activities inspired by Musicians Without Borders. The first 25 registered participants receive a free frame drum to take home (one per family). Participants will celebrate with music-making activities such as drumming, interactive movement, composing your own music, and creating your own peace poster. All ages and abilities are welcome.
Musicians Without Borders is a leader in using music for peace-building. For 25 years, they have worked with people and communities affected by war, conflict, and displacement around the world. Their mission is to use the power of music to bridge divides, connect communities, and heal the wounds of war.
The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on 21 September. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.”
This event is free and open to all. For more information and registration, visit https://dayofpeace.weebly.com/ or call the church office at 315-386-2498. This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and administered by the St. Lawrence County Arts Council.
