Buildings and Grounds Committee

The Building and Grounds Committee oversees the physical assets of the church, and identifies, plans, and arranges the completion of necessary and/or desirable maintenance, repair, and improvement activities to protect and enhance those assets.

The Building and Grounds Committee:

  • Oversees and manages the care of the physical assets of the church, including the building and its equipment, appliances and furnishings, accessory structures, and the church grounds.
  • Plans and undertakes maintenance, repairs, and improvements as needed, with volunteers, paid help, or contracted professional services.
  • Organizes two all-church workdays, providing opportunity for church members to assist the committee in is mission.
  • Provides input to the Memorial Committee regarding oversight and planning for the Memorial Garden.
  • Executes garden maintenance and improvements in conjunction with the Memorial Committee.
  • Responds to recommendations of the church’s insurance carrier and suggestions and requests of other church committees and congregation members regarding building and grounds needs.
  • To the fullest practicable extent, employs practices that maximize energy conservation, environmental responsibility, waste reduction, and reuse, recycling and composting.

The Committee’s budgets cover basic maintenance needs of the church, utilities, equipment, and third-party service contracts. Capital Reserve Funds are used for major building needs exceeding the committee’s annual budget.

Our Church’s Landscape
We take great pride in our beautiful church grounds. Landscape designer Richard Grover developed a landscape plan for the church, from which we’ve been working for the last 15 years. Many of the plantings we appreciate and admire have been given by members of the congregation in memory or honor of a family member or friend. To recognize and honor these contributions, Bobbi Haldane and Richard Grover created the Landscape Testimonial Book. A copy of the book is located on the fireplace mantel in the Social Room.
