Sunday worship begins at 10:30 a.m. Children and youth are invited to participate for the first part of the service, before joining their classes downstairs for their Religious Education program.
Come Worship With Us!
Sunday morning worship is central to the life of our church. It anchors us spiritually and unites us as a community. Services, created by our Minister and Worship Committee, are inclusive and participatory. Children and adults regularly take part in worship in a number of ways–through music, readings, chalice lighting, children’s stories, and personal sharing.
A number of special worship services are important traditions for us, such as Ingathering/Water Ceremony, Religious Education Sunday, Winter Solstice, and Christmas Eve Candlelight. It is our custom to draw wisdom and inspiration from many sources by inviting members of the church and the larger community to share their stories and talents on the Sundays when our minister is not in the pulpit.
Newcomers – What to Expect
Whether you are visiting us for the first time, are still relatively new to our church, or have been around for a while, welcome! We look forward to helping you explore this community and find what you are looking for. Sunday worship begins at 10:30 a.m. Children and youth join the congregation for the first part of the service, then go downstairs for religious education classes; nursery care is available for children 4 and under for the entire service. A social hour follows the service and all are most welcome.
The church is located at 3 1/2 East Main Street, across from the park in the Village of Canton. The rear entrance is fully accessible.
Whether you enter the front door or the side entrance, a greeter will be there to welcome you. Feel free to ask greeters any questions you have and to make a nametag at the table at the back of the sanctuary. If you are coming with children, it would be good to arrive about 10:15 so you can determine childcare needs and appropriate classrooms.
What To Wear
You may see coats and ties and you’ll see jeans and t-shirts – and everything in between. Come as you are comfortable!
Children and youth of all ages are welcome in the services on Sunday mornings. If you are coming with children, it would be good to arrive about 10:15 so you can determine childcare needs and appropriate classrooms. If you have young children, the following may also be helpful to know:
- “Fiddle sticks” are available in baskets at the back of the sanctuary to keep little hands busy.
- If you choose to leave the sanctuary, the service can be heard on speakers in Social Room.
- We offer wonderful Religious Education programs for children and youth from newborn through high school during the school year and childcare and a multi-age program during the summer.
Let Us Know You’re Visiting!
Sometimes visitors and guests are invited to introduce themselves during the service. That option is up to you! Church Council greeters will be introduced; they would like to welcome you, as would we all. Visitors and newcomers are invited to use a blue mug during social hour.
We also invite you to fill out a Get Connected card so we can follow up with you to answer questions and get you information about areas of the church that may be important to you.
Newcomer Orientations – UU 101
These after-church gatherings are held several times a year to introduce newcomers to Unitarian Universalism and to our church. These offer a great opportunity to ask any questions you have about our church and meet other people who are new to the community. For more information, contact our minister at firstname.lastname@example.org or 386-2498.
Sunday Service Volunteers
Every week, members of the congregation volunteer to help out by greeting guests, taking the morning offering, and hosting social hour. If you would like to help out with one of our service volunteer tasks, click here to read about the jobs and find a sign up form.
In addition to the music played on our historic organ, we have regular performances by our adult and children’s choirs and handbell choir. Other accomplished church members and guests also perform at Sunday services from time to time. To read more about the music opportunities at our church, click here.
Coffee, Conversation & More
This regularly scheduled program provides ongoing opportunities for adults to interact with other UUs on a flexible but regular basis outside of the worship hour. It encourages wider and more inclusive attendance that reflects the diversity of ages and stages of life in our congregation. These Sunday activities allow us all to get to know each other and to bring new folks into the family more quickly. Learn more here.
