Cecilie Garden

The Cecilie Garden, located in Lehman Park just south of the village of Potsdam, was established by SUNY Potsdam students in 2003. In 2005, UShare began assisting the students, and now we fully maintain this 60’ x 90’ plot that lies in a beautiful, secluded field next to the Racquette River. The Cecilie garden has well tended and productive planting beds, a drip irrigation system, composting facilities, and wire fencing.  In summer 2015 we grew tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, cabbage, zucchini, acorn squash, butternut squash, onions, potatoes, cucumbers, beets, spinach, bush beans, wax beans, and pie pumpkins.

Cecilie Garden2The Cecilie Garden is very large and we are always looking for more volunteers!  Participate in one of our garden work parties or consider adopting the garden for a week during the summer.

  • Work parties are scheduled mostly during planting and harvesting season, volunteers sign up to be notified when they are scheduled and come as they are able.
  • Garden adopters are asked to visit the garden two or three times during their week. Chores may include weeding, mulching, watering, or harvesting, depending on the time of the season.  You will be paired with an experienced volunteer who can show you what to do. To adopt the Cecilie Garden for a week(s) click here and then click on “Show all 18 options.”
