EBT

EBT Booth Volunteers
The EBT program enables Food Stamp recipients to use their electronic benefit (EBT) cards to buy Farmers’ Market products. UShare staffs the EBT booth at the Farmer's Markets in Canton (Tuesday and Friday) and Potsdam (Wednesday and Saturday). UShare volunteers work with others from the community to distribute tokens redeemable at the market.

In 2010, 14 volunteers contributed 264 hours staffing the EBT table at the Canton Farmers' Market. We distributed $3,481 in tokens, plus $758 in "Farmers' Market Greenbacks," which were distributed through the Shop with a Chef program, at which volunteers assisted GardenShare  staff member Sarah Tulloch. Booth volunteers also distributed the Local Food Guide  and other food assistance information.

In 2011, we have 14 volunteers in Canton and 7 (plus 2 back-up substitutes) in Potsdam. As we did in 2010, we will be staffing the EBT booths at both markets from the beginning of June till the end of October.

If you would like to join the volunteer crew to help staff the EBT booth at the Canton or Potsdam Farmers' Markets, contact the GardenShare office.
