NoCo artist crafts new name tag cabinet

If you haven’t had a chance to check out the new name tag cabinet in the Social Room, you should (and grab your name tag while you’re at it!). The handsome, new cabinet was custom designed and built for us by Bill Smithers of Hammond, NY. Bill’s artistry and craftsmanship are known across the North Country; his work was recently exhibited at TAUNY, where he also sells small custom-crafted items.

According to information shared by TAUNY, Bill is “largely self-taught, learning from reading books and magazines, which has allowed him to develop as a craftsman as well as a woodworker.” He uses locally sourced wood including ash, black walnut, and butternut, and acquires hardwood from a wide variety of sources. The artist says, “I’ve never concentrated on one specific thing, so I’ve done all different kinds of things, which I think is a lot more fun and interesting.” Now he can add “church name tag cabinet” to that list! More about Bill from TAUNY’s recent exhibit here.

Check out the lovely new cabinet and wear your name tag on Sundays – it’s a big help for everyone, especially newcomers! If you need a new name tag, please let Sara in the church office know.
