SOCIAL HOUR HOSTS SCHEDULE 2007-2008
As
in the past, assignments have been made more or less alphabetically, starting
from the middle of the most recent church directory. If you are a church member or active friend, your name is
probably on the list! We will send
you a postcard reminder early in the week your turn is coming up.
If you cannot serve on the day for which you are scheduled, please switch with someone else on the list.
If you are unable to do so, call Social Hour Coordinator, Judy DeGraaff,
at 379-9275. If you are not on the
list, and would be willing to serve as a substitute, or if you are on the list
and don't mind hosting more than once, please let Judy know.
Social
Hour Hosts are asked to arrive 20-25 minutes before the service to prepare
coffee, tea, and juice. If you can,
PLEASE BRING A SMALL CARTON OF MILK (if you forget, we have Cremora).
All other supplies are in the kitchen.
You will need to leave the service during the last hymn to plug in the
tea kettle and put out juice and snacks.
Coffee:
Use the coffee maker on the counter in the kitchen.
Instructions are posted nearby. Coffee
is in the freezer in pre-measured packets.
Cups are in the upper cupboards and in the yellow cart, including blue
mugs for newcomers.
Tea:
Use electric kettle and/or regular kettle.
Tea is in upper cupboard. Put
teabags, cups, etc., on table outside kitchen pass-through.
Juice:
Bottles of juice are in the refrigerator. Pitchers
are in a lower cupboard. Paper cups
and napkins are in a lower cupboard.
Snacks:
A supply of pretzels, crackers, etc., is kept in a lower cupboard.
Put snacks on table in Romer Room.
After social hour, please UNPLUG coffee maker, rinse out coffee pots, put dishes in dishwasher, and start the machine on "Quick Cycle." That's it -- you do NOT have to wait around for the cycle to finish.

GREETERS
Instructions
2007-2008
Please save this list and instructions!
As
in the past, assignments have been made more or less alphabetically from the
most recent church directory. If
you are a church member or active friend, your name is probably on the list!
We will send you a postcard reminder early in the week your turn is
coming up. If you cannot greet on
the day for which you are scheduled, please switch with someone else on
the list. If you are unable
to do so, please call our Greeter Coordinator, Stevie Michaelson, at 386-5250.
If you are not on the list, and would be willing to serve as a
substitute, or if you are on the list and don't mind greeting more than once,
please let Stevie know.
Greeters
should plan to arrive at church 15 minutes before the service begins.
The Membership Committee has prepared a sheet of Greeter instructions,
which you'll find next to the guest book and the name tag board. Station
yourselves at the front entrance and the door between the social room and the
sanctuary. Welcome everyone as they
come in, and give them an order of service.
Please be especially aware of newcomers, and invite visitors to sign the
guest book by the front door and to take any literature that interests them.
As needed, direct visitors to the nursery or to Religious Education
representatives.
On
the Sunday you are greeting, please make a special effort to talk with newcomers
after the service as well.
Invite folks to join us for coffee, and introduce them around.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Greeters are also asked to take up the Offering. On most Sundays, three or four Greeters are scheduled; only two are needed for the Offering, so you can decide among yourselves who will do that. (The Greeter instruction sheet explains how to take up the Offering, if you are unsure.)

MEETING AND GREETING
Greeting before the service
Taking the
morning offering
If there are more than two Greeters, decide ahead of time which two will take the offering. The offering plates are on the windowsill at the center back of the Sanctuary. You should be facing people as you collect their gifts, so that means you always start with the front pew and work back. Greeters keep hold of each plate, rather than passing them down the rows. Begin by walking together down the center aisle to the front. Each Greeter then walks from front to back, collecting from people in the nearest half of each center pew. Then go to the front of the next aisles over (the side aisles), and walk back collecting from the people in the other half of the center pews. Next, go to the front of these same aisles again and walk back, collecting from the nearer half of the outside pews, and then go down the outside aisles to collect from the outer half of the side pews. Finally, collect from any people sitting in extra chairs on the side or at the back. Leave collection plates on the windowsill at the center back. (Our money counters will pick them up immediately after the service.)
After the service
Church Council and Membership Committee welcomers are on the lookout for newcomers, and Greeters should do the same. Invite visitors to stay for social hour, and, if you can, accompany them to the Social Room and introduce them to at least one other person. Encourage newcomers to use blue mugs for coffee or tea. Please stay for at least the first 10 minutes of social hour, and being alert for anyone who is standing alone (whether with a blue mug or not!) and engaging them in conversation.
Thank you for helping to make our church a friendly and welcoming place. Your involvement helps build our sense of community.
